WorleyParsons has been awarded a five year contract for Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management services for BP-operated assets in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
We are currently looking for an experienced Principal Safety & Risk Engineer to join our Baku office.
KEY Accountabilities Of Position:
• Prepare and check engineering and design deliverables in accordance with defined design brief, scope of work, schedule and budget.
• Be a Subject Matter Expert, working proactively and collaboratively with other team members to resolve technical issues, complete discipline activities and meet project goals.
• Manage project change, proactively working with the team to resolve issues.
• Ensure technical integrity, consistency and quality of work carried out is in accordance with project SEAL requirements, applicable codes and standards, company procedures and the basis of design or statement of requirements.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Job Specific:
1. To consult to the Safety & Risk design team on a project, to assist the Project Lead Safety & Risk Engineer in checking Safety & Risk deliverables, and to advise on safeguarding and optimisation issues.
2. To work with the design team to develop practical and economic designs to achieve the project objectives.
3. To act as stand-in and perform the functions of the Lead Safety & Risk Engineer, when required.
4. To prepare the discipline Project Design Criteria prior to the commencement of engineering activities.
5. To prepare a Safety and Sustainability in Design Context Statement translating the project safety and sustainability risks into discipline specific design goals, then use this context statement to induct new discipline personnel onto the project.
6. To specify and select appropriate equipment to allow the project to develop a practical and economic design.
7. To undertake research and self-training in order to continuously improve technical skills and depth of knowledge especially regarding emerging technologies.
8. To support the development and training of Graduate Safety & Risk Engineers, particularly by contributing to departmental training lectures and acting as a mentor.
9. To undertake the functions and prime objectives of a Senior Safety & Risk Engineer, when required.
10. To assist the Lead Safety & Risk Engineer with business development, recruitment and proposals when requested.
11. For assigned projects:
• Check calculations
• Check Safety & Risk drawings and ensure consistency between different engineers’ products, and consistency with the client’s standards.
• Provide input to studies and/or act as reviewer/checker
• Provide input to technical meetings with client personnel
• Perform optimisation studies and provide ideas for improving the safety design and/or saving cost.
• Provide safety input at formal safety reviews, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, SIL reviews, peer reviews etc.
• Facilitate Safety reviews, What-Ifs, design reviews and other safety related workshops.
• Maintain regular informal contact with the client engineer, to ensure the safety team is aware of issues that are currently important to the client.
• Seek regular feedback from the client engineer regarding how the project design is being perceived in the client home office.
• Ensure client engineer is fully informed of issues in a timely fashion
• Raise Technical Queries to confirm preferential solutions or changes to the basis of design.
• Ensure that the process deliverables meet the expectations of the client.
• Provide Safety & Risk input on Inter-discipline Checks of deliverables from other disciplines.
• Contribute to reviews of the 3D piping model and equipment layout reviews.
• Provide Safety & Risk input during Tender Bid Evaluation.
• Provide Safety & Risk review/approval of vendor data.
• Assist the Lead Safety & Risk Engineer to train the younger engineers by:
• Providing technical input and advice to the younger engineers.
• Encouraging the younger engineers to develop their capabilities.
• Recommending additional reading materials, references and go-by documents to help younger engineers understand the topics and issues

Experience:
Required:
1. Simulation:
• Be capable of checking complex firewater steady state and Transient Pipenet models produced by others.
• Be sufficiently familiar with PHAST, HAZMap and FlareSim to check inputs and perform basic interpretation of the outputs.
2. Independent Peer Reviews:
• Be capable of performing an independent peer review of Firewater P&IDs and other relevant Safety & Risk deliverables from another team’s project.
Guide:
Minimum Industry Experience
• Ten years in the hydrocarbon industry.
Minimum Oil and Gas Related Experience
• Minimum of ten years specifically in Safety & Risk design.
• Minimum of eight years specifically in Safety & Risk design of upstream, midstream or refinery process units and utilities
• Minimum of 2 years in Principal roles in design teams.
Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, preferably from an institution recognised by the IChemE as being suitable to enable progress to Member status. Other potentially acceptable qualifications are B. Tech. (Chem. Eng) or equivalent.
• Corporate Membership of IChemE.
